Prepared Environment

The aim of a supportive, well designed and appropriately modified "prepared environment' allows the person to be as independent as possible, inviting their engagement, supporting their interests and catering to their individual needs. Whether it be in the home or a care community, it should be organised and aesthetically pleasing, providing enticement to engage with dedicated interactive spaces allocated for activities. There should be appropriate cues and modifications to support independence, as well as Montessori-based multi-sensory materials, resources and activities accessible at all times. It should offer various areas and seating options for quiet thinking, reading, privacy, and socialising. Meal times should provide opportunities for choice, social connection and independence and there should be access to safe, interesting and inviting outdoor areas.
